2. Color Matching & Previous Orders

If you have ordered from us before and your new order will be installed adjacent to a previous order, please specify the date of your previous order in the checkout notes. Due to the inherent variables of commercial digital printing and ink lot calibrations over time, we cannot guarantee colors will match previous orders exactly; however, we will do our absolute best to achieve a reasonably close match for you.

3. Nominal Sizing & Full Bleed Requirements

All catalog sizes are nominal. This means dimensions are based on material cut size, and actual photographic imagery on the prints will be approximately 3/8” to 1/2” smaller than the nominal material size due to required printer margins.

If you require Full Bleed (where the printed image covers the full ordered dimension edge-to-edge), you will need to order one size larger than your final requirement and specify the exact printed dimensions needed in your order notes.

5. Non-Removable Installation

Our backdrops are engineered for permanent, long-lasting display and are not intended to be removable or reusable. Attempting to peel or pull down backdrops after adhesive bonding may damage both the backdrop and your mounting surface.

6. Presentation Paper Material Specifications

Our protective vinyl laminate coating is NOT applied to Presentation Paper material. Presentation Paper is intended as an economical solution and is not recommended for permanent or high-humidity applications. Presentation Paper should NEVER be installed with liquid-based adhesives (water, paste, or PVA glue). Mechanical fasteners such as pins, staples, Velcro, or double-sided tape are required. 7. Custom On-Demand Printing & Tracking

We are a dedicated small business operated by model railroaders. To provide thousands of variations and scales without massive pre-printed inventory overhead, every backdrop is custom printed on demand after your order is placed. While we aim to print and ship standard catalog orders within 3–5 business days, production times may vary during peak periods. Once shipped, automated USPS shipping software will send tracking updates to your provided email address. Please ensure emails from USPS and RailroadBackdrops.com are whitelisted from your spam/junk folder.

8. Custom Blending Approvals & Proofing

If you are ordering multiple backdrops to be blended together or custom commissioned artwork, we email you a digital proof for your formal approval before printing commences. Please confirm your email address is accurate upon checkout. Production lead time begins once final proof approval is received.

9. Maximum Single-Piece Dimensions

Our wide-format printing equipment is capable of printing a maximum seamless dimension of 36” in height by 192” (16 feet) in length in one continuous piece. Orders exceeding these dimensions will be printed in multiple panels engineered to butt-seam smoothly together.

10. Aspect Ratios & Proportion Standards

All backdrop scenes are designed to print at standard 4:1 or 5:1 length-to-height proportions. If your custom ordered height and length falls significantly outside these proportions, we reserve the right to crop, stretch, or repeat and blend scenes at our discretion to fill your dimensions. If your ordered ratio exceeds 6:1 or is less than 3:1, we will contact you to select additional coordinating scenes to blend together seamlessly.

12. Installation Compliance

Our materials, prints, and self-adhesives will not bubble when installed strictly according to manufacturer instructions. Customers are advised to review all adhesive specifications and guidelines featured on our Installing Backdrops Page prior to installation.
